Colin was talking at length with an old fisherman one day. The fisherman asked Colin "Have you ever been out on the waves?" He proceeded to tell Colin about the hard realities of being a fisherman. This inspired Colin to start work on this project. The song "Out on the waves" and most of this album was written for and is dedicated to fisherman everywhere.

	"Take me down son" Colin's father spent 33 years of his life on deep sea ships. This song was written for his father and alludes to his longing for the ocean.

"Gander, the hole in the wall" Before the demise of the Berlin wall people in some communist countries referred to Gander, Newfoundland as The hole in the wall, a place where you could defect to the west or walk through the hole in the wall.
